Syria Report
Starting at the beginning of this year, Syria is accepting trademark applications under the Tenth Edition of the Nice Agreement for the classification of goods and services.
The Nice Classification is a system adopted by the World Intellectual Property Organisation for the classification of goods and services for the purpose of registering trademarks.
The classification is updated every five years by a committee of experts. The latest edition groups products into 45 classes (classes 1-34 for goods and classes 35-45 for services)
According to Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property, a consultancy, Syria is among 6 Arab countries to have adopted the latest edition at the beginning of this year – the five others being the UAE, Jordan, Egypt, Algeria and Tunisia.
