Olive Crop at 900,000 Tons/ Syria Report 19-6-2012
Syria Report

Syria’s production of olive for the 2011/2012 season is forecast at 900 thousand tons by the Ministry of Agriculture.

Although the figure marks a decline compared to the previous crop, when the output stood at 1 million tons, it is still a good performance, according to a statement from the Ministry of Agriculture. The governorate of Aleppo ranks first with 225 thousand tons, followed by Lattakia with 200 thousand tons and Idlib with 140 thousand tons.

Syria is among the five largest producers of olive and olive oil in the world.

Meanwhile, Syria’s production of pistachio is expected to reach some 65 thousand tons, the Ministry also said, from 63 thousand tons last season.
